Committee Reports

a. Pit Crew – Ed Uden

Moving and assembling a “forest” this year. We have two trailers full of equipment and around 12 volunteers are necessary for these performances to function.

This Friday between 5:20 and 5:30 we will need help unloading the trailers at the UNK circle drive off HWY 30 across from the Sinclair gas station. Volunteers will be able to watch the game at times. We need several volunteers. Please check out the signup genius on the band website.

b. Uniforms / Roadies -Kim Clark & Alisa Bennett

Volunteers need to be there by around 5 for this coming game since it will be the first time students are performing in their uniforms. There will be many situations where uniforms will need adjusted, hair pinned down, etc.

c. Concessions – Angela Wright

Amanda Smallcomb is going to be working with Angela, learning the ropes of managing this side business for the band. One of them will be there all the time to assist with operations. Sign ups come out about a week before. An adult needs to sign up if indicated in the sign up. Please do not sign up your child for an adult slot. Volunteering for concessions contributes financially to your students’ band account, applied quarterly and divided up evenly by number of hours worked, not by revenue per event.

d. BMF & NSBA – Shawna Knott and Sarah Ginsler

Have 9 schools signed up for BMF. With NSBA, the construction happening on the south side of the building has interfered with usual logistics so BMF will be a great trial run. Kearney will perform at 3:30 for BMF. BMF is Sep 20th and NSBA is Oct 25th. Pit crew will now be parking around the horseshoe drive, relocating handicap parking. Will form lines under the stadium. Warm up will still be on the west side of the building and then walk through the gym to get to the field. We will need some extra help this year with the change in logistics, including helping spectators with mobility issues. All concessions will be downstairs this year. Earnings from concessions for BMF and NSBA will go directly to the band, not student accounts. Will have a coffee vendor again for NSBA.

Still needing a few things for these events:
300ft snow fencing
Spray paint
Red and green ducktape
Taco meat – possibly both BMF and NSBA
50ft plastic chain
Small fridges and coolers to keep concession drinks cold.

e. Band banquet (spring) – Karen Mast, Craig Chamberlin

f. Big Band Dance (spring)

g. Advertisements – Alissa Nebbe

Please pick up a form for band sponsorships. Share with your family, friends, and businesses you know and frequent.

5.

Volunteers needed – Jennifer Petzet

Big Band Dance Chair (Spring)
Pit Crew-current signup genius
Bearcat Marching Festival- signup genius coming soon
Senior Night Recognition- current sign up genius
NSBA-watch for signup
Bus Sponsors- watch for signup – sponsors are chaperones and we like to have 2-3 on each bus.

6.
Fundraising
Walmart (Spark) – round up on your online order
Raise Right – purchase gift cards here and a portion applies to the student’s band account.
Pizza Ranch- Mon. Sept. 22 5pm-8pm. Watch for sign up or at least go eat!
K cards come out in October and we do not get much notice. The KHS Band typically sells the most cards. Students can check out 10 at a time without any money up front. Any more than 10 at a time have to be “purchased” and then you must recoup the money to repay yourself for the purchased ones. They will be $10 each.

7.
Old Business
Tuba has been ordered but is not yet in. Expected in November.

8.
New Business
Senior Night update – Will get a photo instead of a flower, just as we did last year.
Donation to the Middle school – They are going to DC and needed a deposit of $9,000 which the KBPA lent to them to be able to secure the trip until their fundraising was complete. We have debated donating $4,500 to them and they will only need to pay back $4,500. The donors will be going on the back of their shirts they are wearing for the trip.

Motion to approve:

1st – David Rodriguez
2nd – Alisa Bennett

Director’s Comments

Rick Mitchell
Thank you all for being here, this is a great group. We are humbled that you give up your time to be here because you care about your kids. You all have great kids, with great work ethic.
The first football game is Friday. Call time is 6pm ready to go, in uniform. Please have students wear long black socks.

Nathan LeFeber
Nebraska Musicians Educators Association has invited us to perform this fall at the Lied Center. This is the 2nd time that the band has been invited to play at the Lied Center. This event will be Friday Nov 21st at 10:45 in the morning.
The learning process has been going well. We are pushing them to succeed and they are rising to the occasion.
We have volleyball games and basketball games that we will have Pep Band assignments for. An email was sent out indicating if your student is in the Gold or Blue Pep Bands. If they are scheduled to play and can’t participate, they must find a sub from the other color band.
Band spirit wear will be reopened soon, possibly with some new designs.

Motion to adjourn:
1st – Abe Smith
2nd- Steven Thiele
