3. Financial Reports
Treasurer Update
– General Account: $42,585.20
– Student Account: $28,488.87 includes hardship and scholarship accounts
– Online Account: $8,815.05 – MMO payments run through here
– NSBA NSBA 2025 – we are still waiting for attendance totals. $8,500 total received for hosting the event. Only a few expenses are still outstanding. The banners were added this year but will be used in future NSBA events
Also paid Bearcat Diner $663.75 this year to use the cafeteria for NSBA. We feel like concessions flowed much better.
Kearney High concessions will be purchasing the majority of the leftovers. Big thanks to Amanda Smallcomb for this.
Also trying to recuperate hot chocolate expenses
$12,217,03 total profit from NSBA – slightly down from last year but our expenses were slightly higher.
4. Committee Reports
– Pit Crew (Ed Uden) – Trees are in storage for now. We had a great year with a great crew, lots of fun times were had. Not running trailer for Veterans Day Parade this weekend.
– Uniforms / Roadies (Kimberly Clark) – unsure of date so far.
– Concessions (Angela Wright/Amanda Smallcomb) – no further events until December. Sign up genius is not created yet but will be out soon.
– Stadium CleanUp (Kelsey Jezbera) – invoice sent for $2,400 and once those funds are received they will be distributed to student accounts.
– NSBA update (Shawna Knott/Sarah Gensler) – everything went very well and we had many volunteers. Thank you’s are being sent to the Berean Church, CCC, City of Kearney, and others who assisted with the functionality of the event. We liked having concessions downstairs. Shawna’s map with info was very helpful. New safety vests worked well. An idea was brought up about reaching out to community entities in the future to help volunteer instead of primarily relying on the band parents to volunteer. May also continue to send out the signup to school alumni and maybe come up with a special t-shirt for signing up. We do already reach out to high school organizations that need volunteer hours. Nathan said a couple of band directors commented on how amazing the band parents were during the event. Might be a good idea to also have a volunteer KPD off duty officer for security. Could also ask the district to provide an SRO.
– Sponsorships (Alissa Nebbe)
5. Upcoming Volunteers needed:
– Senior Banners move them to gym – Will need help getting the banners off the stands and bringing them to the school.
– Tuesday November 18th Culvers – student volunteers needed. Please eat there to support the band!
– Soup & Pie Night Fundraiser (1/9)-watch for signup – band parents provide the precut pies and the soup is provided.
– NSBA- Co-Chair and Band Escort Leader needed for 2026 – Misha for NSBA Co – Chair.
6. Fundraising
– Spring Fundraiser – will do Beef Raffle again
– Concessions-watch for sign up genius
– RaiseRight – buy gift cards – portion goes to student accounts
– Spark (Walmart) – round up online
– Eat at Culvers November 18 from 5-8 (percentage plus tips)
– Sponsor info for next year (Nebbe)
Raising Canes fundraiser raised only $75. Alissa thinks it’s because the employees weren’t sure how to do it. Will likely not use them next year.
$9,490.22 total from local business and donations.
Culvers fundraiser expected to be $500
Traded services $4,250
Total $13,740.22 from sponsorships.
7. Old Business
– NSBA
– Senior Night
– K Cards – 1800 cards checked out, sales ended last Friday. Most of the envelopes that were returned did not have cards in them. Expecting it to be a record year for KCard profits. Lisa Meseure had an elderly man knock on her door asking for KCards because they had a band sign in their yard.
– Columbus visit -Athletic director said it was a great visit. Also huge thanks to our directors for setting that up.
8. New Business
Cory visiting from Gary Michaels – Sells unhemmed black pants. 28in waist is the smallest available but length can be changed over time. Also has concert black shirts as well. Nathan would be happy to share some information if he can provide something for him to distribute.
9. Director’s Comments
Mitchell:
Heartfelt thank you to all of you that work so hard for our band. Humbling to see how much you all care about the kids and we are so thankful for the time you put in for these events to succeed. Kearney is a special place because of parents like yourselves. We don’t struggle for volunteers as much as other districts. Thank you for continuing to support the band. Speaking of the kids, there are lots of items in the lost and found that aren’t at your house but maybe should be. Anything not claimed by the end of the week will be donated to goodwill. Next couple of weeks 15 participants for Allstate band, 7 of which are band kids. Each year we see more students going. This year we have our first 4 year Allstate participant Antonio Guerrero. Dec 11th and 16th are dates for band concerts. The concert on the 16th will be a special day , we have commissioned a piece of music that will be performed by our band and orchestra. It would be awesome if we can pack the house for the premiere. As soon as the concert is over on the 16th, LeFeber and I will head to Omaha and fly to Chicago to attend a national conference, Midwest Band and Orchestra convention. It will be great to bring back great ideas to implement.
LeFeber:
All the music department will be on full display and will be involved at the performance at the Lied Center, Friday Nov 21st. Thank you for all the support with recent events. KPBA has done so much from feeding our own band multiple times, to feeding the 8th grade band and the Columbus pep band. KBPA also helped with purchasing a new podium, new tuba, new ipad, and countless other things that help make these things happen. We couldn’t have done it without your support. KBPA also helped 8th grader band members to be able to attend the DC trip. Kids were able to go for about $500 each. There are about 6 kids going for free due to KBPA donation. There are about 91 kids in the 8th grade band, we hope to get half or more when they begin high school. Uniforms are in the pipeline for approval, everything has been submitted, but we just have to wait for their decision.
