- Motion to accept the Treasurer Report made by Steve Shano, 2nd by Wendy Kries and the motion was carried
Old Business
- The band association has not yet received the donation from Runza night but the attendance numbers were good.
- Hockey clean-up. The 2 February dates have been cut due to low attendance. March 6th is the last date for the year. It was noted that the info regarding the Event Center date cancellations came 2 days after the last band parent meeting
- The basketball concessions are going well. The sign-up dates are filled through the regular season. The BB subdistricts are being filled with 8th grade parents who have made commitments with deposits for the Sugar Bowl. Hopefully, district assignments will provide additional dates.
New Business
- Info out to the 8th graders for the Big Band Dance through mailed flyers.
- Mary Girard handed out sign up sheets for 12-serving desserts, shift workers and a request for donated items. If parents sign-up for a dessert or work a shift the money earned from the concessions, is a unit of pay that will be applied toward the student account. Prices were set at $3.00 for a dessert and refreshment and after discussion $.50 for a drink only.
Nominations to the board
- President-elect, Treasurer-elect and the Secretary positions are open for the 2009-10 school year. The group was asked to contact a board member or one of the directors by March if interested. Names will need to be submitted by April at the latest with new members being installed at the May Band Banquet.
Music Group Photos
- Group photos are available through Friday, February 6th for purchase. An 5×7=$8.00 or a 8×10=$12.00.
Butterbraids
- Pam Thomas, co-chair, relayed the local vendor Dave Matteson shared that the Butterbraid orders would b due on Tuesday, March 24th for the April 7th delivery date. This is the day after the students return from spring break and it usually takes a few students an additional 3-4 day to get their orders in. This would push the order dates to March 31st and we would then miss our delivery date of April 7th prior to the conference (Easter) break. The Butterbraid time frames were discussed Pam will check to see if we can move the time frames up so that the orders would be due before spring break instead of after. She will also check on recommended pricing.
Fundraisers
- Aluminum cans may be dropped off at Junkman Recycling during the week of the band parents meeting. It was shared that the owner is fine with anytime. Just identity the cans should be applied toward the band parents assoc. See additional info under Director Comm.
Director Comments
- Mr. Mitchell explained the Big Band Dance is a fundraiser for the Jazz Bands enrichment programs. It is a fun event where the Jazz Ensemble plays 3 sets with the Jazz Lab playing in between at Sunrise Middle School.
- Two individuals have approached the directors about fundraising opportunities for the band. Bill Stevens of Crystal Carpet Cleaning and ?Jon Obermiller of Pizza Hut. Mr. Stevens proposed that he would give students 15% off carpet cleaning coupons to hand out. For every coupon that came in he would donate/match 15% to the students account. The winter months are slower for business so Mr. Stevens was hoping to get these out in February. The Pizza Hut fundraiser proposal included tickets being handed out by the band students, sale dates from June 19-23rd with 20% of the sales generated from the order going into the student’s accounts. These coupons or tickets can not be distributed on school property.
- The band concert scheduled for Tuesday, March 3 will probably begin at 7:00 and start with the Symphonic Band. Mike Forbes an instructor at UNK specializing in low brass instruments (tuba) will be soloing with the band. He has a conflict with another concert the same evening so by starting the concert earlier it will work out for all.
- The Sugar Bowl band trip final cost should be determined by April with payment schedules following. It will be a land package only. Commitment forms are still being taken. Tickets for the game a-la-carte on the internet are running $200-300 per ticket.
Parent Comments or Questions
- A parent asked if the individual student account amounts would be available in April. It was explained that we were still waiting on funds to come in from UNK concession and Runza Night. Other fundraisers such as Hockey clean-up and the BB games will be distributed at the completion of the activity.
- Fundraising for the summer will need to be addressed. Judy Meyer will begin to look into this.
- The junior parents will met after this meeting regarding the band banquet.
Adjournment
- With no further comments Pam Thomas motioned to adjourn and Joni Brooks. The motion was carried Respectfully submitted, Mary Girard, Secretary
