The meeting was called to order by President Matt Bamesberger. Welcome to all. There were 19 members in attendance. The January 10th meeting was cancelled due to the weather.
Reading of Minutes-Mary Girard. The minutes were reviewed and approved after a motion by Ronda Jaeschke and 2nd by Becky Michels.
Treasurer’s Report-Shawna Skaggs. The current Treasurer’s Report was presented and filed. The yearly audit is complete with no irregularities noted. As the association moves toward a not-for profit status expect that audits could cost the association around $300.00. Marci Oshner was nominated by Shawna Skaggs for the Treasurer-Elect position, Ronda Jaeschke 2nd the nomination and Marci accepted.
Committee Reports
- BB Concessions-Becky Michels. Concessions are going well. She is waiting for info regarding districts and then the additional dates will be posted.
- Big Band Dance-Robbie Samuelson. The dance went well. There was good support from parents. The concessions brought in $246.50. All attending, felt the dance instructors Rhonda and Kirby Andersen added to the evening and increased the number of people dancing.
Old Business
- Senior flag stands (used at KHS football games)-Ronda and Don Jaeschke will probably get started on rebuilding these (too small for the flags) over the next few months as no one has yet volunteered. Don has contacts at Builder’s and a parent offered PVC pipe donation if the size she has is what is needed. It is estimated approximately 35 stands are needed. This will be helpful to next year’s ‘Spirit Parent’.
- Spirit items-senior shirt (Shawna Skaggs) and band parent shirt (Ronda Jaeschke) available.
- Canned Food Drive/Dec. Concert-Mr. Mitchell reports approximately 425 cans were donated.
New Business
- Runza (South) Fundraiser-Monday, Febr. 21st from 5-8pm. Dine-in. Need volunteers to host. A sign-up sheet was passed around.
- Silver Canyon Coffee Fundraiser-Matt Bamesberger shared information regarding a fundraiser selling coffee. Discussed this might need to be a fundraiser that parents participate in (no limitations) as there are school district limits for student (2/year) fundraising. Visited about setting up order dates and ways to tie into the student accounts. Tiffany Young suggested exploring ‘Beverage Butler’ (drip catcher) as a fundraiser in association with the coffee fundraiser. It sells for $14.99 with a nice profit for fundraising organizations.
- Parent Hand book suggestions needed in March.
- Volunteers needed:
- Band Banquet-Barbara Bamesberger volunteered to chair the band banquet committee. She will need other junior parents to assist in planning.
- Bylaws Review-sign up passed around for those interested to get started.
Director’s Comments
- Pep Band – no penalties for students who missed a Pep Band date due to the weather. Should KHS teams make it to the state tournaments a Pep Band bus will be taken. Students interested in participating are chosen by instrument, attendance then seniority.
- Practice Logs-sophomore and freshman parents may be hearing about practice logs. Mr. Mitchell is challenging the students to build a culture of personal practice at least 3 days per week as this is how outstanding ensembles develop. The logs are 10% of their grade. Right now the Concert Band is working on a college level piece and are doing well with it.
- Deli International-student fundraiser. Sales will begin in March.
- Washington DC trip package-Mr. Mitchell reviewed a possible itinerary for the band trip in May of 2012. Traveling arrangements are continuing to be explored. The more students participating the lower the cost per student.
- District Music-Thursday, April 21st at GISH. Will include small groups, solos, Percussion and possibly the jazz bands.
