Committee Reports
- BB Concessions-Becky Michels. Waiting on Runza and pop invoices (.90/pop) before final tallies.
- Band Banquet-May 7th. Barbara Bamesberger-junior parents will meet for a short time after the meeting.
Old Business
- Senior Flags-Ronda J. showed members the current flag stands (too small) compared to the way the FB stands are built. Due to cost of the pvc connectors etc., pieces from the current stands will be re-used. Ronda sent out letters to area business/contractors asking for any unwanted pvc pipe for donation but hasn’t heard back from anyone. She requested that the band parents buy the needed pipe (re-furbished stands estimated at $7.00 each versus $ 32.00 for new) once it is determined what is needed. Ronda mentioned looking for a Spirit Parent next fall to be in charge of setting up the flag stands at each of home game.
- Fundraisers-Runza (no info regarding Runza-Night-Out); Coffee (tabled);
Deli International-sales start 3/15. Milt from Deli International came to the band parents meeting to share a new promotion to help increase sales. If the consumer buys 3 products they will receive a $15.00 gift certificate to Cabela’s. The student pays $2.00 per certif. but with the sale of the 3rd product it will easily offset this cost.
- Parent Handbook -suggestions needed this month. Please share with a board member.
New Business
- Bylaw and Constitution Review begins in this month- February (suggestions reviewed by board e-mailed to members); March (suggestions read at this meeting); April (re-read proposed changes and will vote upon). Suggested changes will be posted on website for all to view.
- Flag Design-a possible new design for the senior flags was mentioned. In researching a possibility of new flag designs with Misko’s the following was shared: Standard Logo: $30.00; Flag with New Band Logo: $32.00; Flag with Student Photo: $35.00. ( Additional ordering info was shared after the meeting: One Time Set-Up fee for flag w/logo design: $20.00 – $22.50. Shipping if flags are ordered all at one time: $.50 – $1.00 (addition to above pricing). Any flags ordered after the deadline will be the responsibility of the Senior parent. The parent will be responsible for any/all added costs for shipping and production to make the separate flag). Families will be asked to vote on a preference for next year.
- BB Concessions-chairs, one versus two years. Different points of view were shared regarding whether or not to continue with 2 concession chair persons 2 years in a row (learn first year/lead the next for consistency versus amount of money earned over 2 years due to the number of hours in the concession stand). After discussion it was decided to table the topic for the evening and look at voting next month.
- Band Ambassador Scholarship applications due in April.
- Volunteers needed:
- Cruise Night co-chair
- Officers 2011-12: President –Elect, Secretary, Treasurer-Elect
Director’s Comments- Mr. Svoboda encouraged parents to support students continuing playing music beyond high school whether it be in the armed services or a church group etc. An example was given of a former KHS student playing for the Marines and the pride a director feels to see a former student continuing to play. During band camp the students will be allowed to park in the horseshoe drive south of the auditorium.
Mr. Mitchell shared more trip information for May 2012 to Washington D.C. Tentatively, the dates will be May 18th-22nd pending board approval. A clinic will be held with one of the armed services bands. Possible museums tours include: Spy and Newsuem. Five payments will be due at intervals with the first payment/deposit of $150.00 due May 1st, 2011.
