General Meeting Minutes – October 2011

Tuesday, October 4, 2011 · KHS Band Room

The meeting was called to order by President-elect Ronda Jaeschke. 42 members were in attendance.

A motion to accept the minutes from September was made by Tiffani Young and 2nd by Tammy Madsen. The motion was carried.

Marci Ochsner gave the treasurers report, going through the checks and deposits for the month. A check from Kearney Federal Credit Union without a students’ name needs to be claimed.

Spirit Items – per Ronda Jaeschke. Pick up tonight. After tonight, the directors will send home with kids.
Water Coordinators – per Paula Nesiba and Pam Glendenning. Going good, ran a little short on water at Harvest of Harmony. Will adjust accordingly.
UNK Concessions – Per Ronda Jaeschke. All shifts are covered.

Second reading of the Amendments. Motion to accept by Lynn Cooper, Barb Bamesberger 2nd. Add Web Team to wording.
NSBA Program Ad – Ronda Jaeschke showed an example. Students will check name spelling.

NSBA Hub Ad – Contact Hub only. Will be in the paper on October 20, full page color ad.
KHS Band Boosters – Mr. Lefeber would like to implement and promote a KHS Band Booster Organization. This organization would provide capital improvements, such as to purchase or replace outdated equipment, like drums, trailer, sousaphones. The KHS Band Parents Association’s primary function is to support band trips. Mr. Lefeber suggested that we need to look for boosters, especially contact Alumni. He is also looking for a committee for the Band Booster Organization.

Papa Johns – Marci Ochsner contacted the company and the local Papa John’s is able to provide this fundraiser for our band. However, upon reading further, it only gives the band 15% of the proceeds if a flyer with the band info on it is brought in by the person buying the pizza. This will create more work for the band parents. This fundraiser was tabled for now.
Hoopheads – The cost of the hoopheads will be a total of $7-8 – $5 for the hoophead itself plus shipping and the screenprinting of the distressed logo. We will charge $15 and will order 100 and have a table set up at home basketball games. The table has been approved according to Mr. Lefeber. A suggestion was made to sell to band kids first.
Cat Cards – Friday 10/14 will be the date all cards and payments are due. This will give time to process for the November 1 trip payment due date. The cat card sales will count toward the trip payment. There is a limit of 5 cards per student at a time. The band was given 750 total cards.

Harvest of Harmony – Mr. Lefeber said that the kids did a wonderful job. He is excited for Links. He is pushing hard for gold at NSBA and stressing individual performance of marching and playing. There will be new tricks this week.
Mr. Lefeber has been overwhelmed by the parent help. The pitcrew has great and enough help.
Mr. Mitchell said the band couldn’t do what we do without parents help. His favorite phrase is “Go find a band mom”. He said the band was a talented and hardworking group. He also thanks the 9th grade parents for having their kids in band.
Trip update – the agent is contacting military bases for the students to play. They will be performing at monuments. November 1 is the next $300 payment. March is when the plane seat assignments will be made.
There is a need for black socks for performances. Have the students bring their hat boxes to performances so their hats are not crushed. Students need to be using the sleeve headbands and bobby pins to hold up their hair.

There being no further comments Todd Ochsner made a motion to adjourn. Tiffani Young 2nd and all were in agreement.
