Reading of the minutes
The minutes were read by those in attendance. A motion to approve the minutes as submitted was made by Todd Ochsner, and seconded by Lynn Cooper.
Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer’s Report was shared; Marci needs to take 10% from the UNK concessions to go to the general fund before the money goes to the students accounts.
Your student account can be used to pay for instrument rental, clinic fees, and other items, not just for trips.
Committee Reports
Big Band Dance – February 3rd. A signup sheet was sent around for desserts and also a sheet for working a shift. We need 15 desserts that will serve 12 each. Access to the school from 5 – 11. Desserts can be dropped off at 5 P.M. The parents are responsible for the dessert table and the Jazz band students are responsible for all other decorations, selling tickets, and arranging the layout of the area.
Basketball Concessions – There have been several times when the person that is signed up doesn’t show up to work, also sometimes the alternate doesn’t answer the call to come in. Therefore we are left short-handed in the stand.
New Business
Band Ambassador Scholarship – the information will be in the senior packets. Please pay special attention to the providing proof of enrollment to the Band Parent Association Treasurer so the student can receive the money that they have been awarded.
Old Business
Hoop Heads: They just don’t seem to be selling. Moonlight madness and dance kitten camps are coming up, they may be big selling nights. We will need volunteers to help sell at the next 2 games. Get a ticket with a particular purchase at the concession stand. 2 for each varsity game. The price will be reduced to $10 for everyone, if someone already purchased one they can recoup the difference of $5 contact Marci Ochsner.
Band Booster Steering Committee – Mr. LeFeber has a couple of dates planned to meet. Tammy Duncan has already been in contact with the KPS Foundation. Things have been started so we can accept donations, write checks and such through the foundation and we are able to use their 501c3 nonprofit status. There is an account for the Kearney High Band at the foundation office. There has already been a $1000 donation. There is a “wish list” of things that need updated. Money that gets donated will go towards this wish list. At the meetings one of the things that needs to be accomplished is to prioritize this list. Volunteer opportunities – we need volunteers to help sell hoop heads at the next couple of games.
Directors Comments – Tryouts for wind ensemble class, symphony, and concert band. Placement of students to their playing level, in order to help keep students interest in band and to make concert band have a better teacher to student ratio. The students can tryout a second time if they feel that they didn’t do very well. If a student plays more than one instrument, then they can choose which instrument they tryout with. The Directors also know the students pretty well, so they will take into account their personal abilities. The list will come out at the end of January, so the students will know which band to sign-up for during class registration.
There are many honor bands coming up. These are all valuable experiences, we have students in all the honor bands.
Chase Christiansen won an award for a composition Texas Tech Trombone playing composition competition. What an amazing honor.
We won’t know the trip agenda until we hear from the parks department to let us know which monument we will perform at. After we hear from them, then the rest of the arrangements can be made.
