16 parents in attendance.
The minutes were read by all.
Motion to approve the minutes by Arlyn Hinrichs, 2nd by Marlene Hansen.
Treasurer’s Report was given by Marci Ochsner. The report will be filed.
Band Booster Steering Committee – The foundation keeps track of all of the donations with a spreadsheet and then sends out a thank you letter with a tax ID number on it so the donor can use that for their taxes. When we send out fliers the foundation can mail them for us at a discounted postage and then charge us for the postage used. Donations can also be made securely on-line. We are charged a 3% fee from the foundation, but the rewards are definitely worth it. If a person doesn’t want to donate to the foundation because of the past fraudulent problems, they can donate the money to Mr. LeFeber and he would then get it where it needs to be. All of the people involved with the fraud are no longer there, but it can be a concern to some people. Next meeting they will try to come up with a layout of a brochure. The brochure will present some of the needs and benefits, and will enable people to be able to make donations. We are hoping to have the brochures ready by the May 3rd concert at Yanney to use that as our kickoff. There is some talk of having a pancake feed in the fall, maybe as a send off to one of the marching contests to get re-acquainted with the Booster club. Now we need someone with graphic design experience to take our ideas and make them look sharp and presentable so we have a brochure that looks professional.
Basketball Concessions – They have been pretty busy and there are still a few workers that show up late or not at all. The workers have been getting email reminders plus phone calls. It is very important for everyone to take their commitment seriously, as it leaves the concession stand short-handed and we aren’t able to give the quality of service our customers have been accustomed to and deserve. We have been given the opportunity to host some district games this year. As soon as the dates are given an email will go out to have individuals sign-up to work shifts there are possibly 6 dates.
Big Band Dance – Big Band Dance was postponed due to weather until February 14th. Everyone has been more than willing to adjust their dates to the 14th. Thank you very much! We figured the best time for the make-up date would be Valentine’s day so people will bring their sweethearts out. The dance won’t go as late due to it being a school night. Shifts will be adjusted accordingly.
Band Banquet Chair – an email blast was sent to all of the junior parents. The facility use agreement has already been made. Barb Bamesberger was in charge last year. Julie Hofer has volunteered to coordinate the evening. The Junior parents will need to stay later after the March meeting to start getting things ready. Barb Bamesberger has all of the senior flags, they all have grommets so they should hang up easily. The theme generally is what the marching band used for their program, Cirque du Soleil, Ka.
Cruise Nite – Co-chair visit with Tammy and Justin Madsen if interested. This years is July 18- 22nd.
Concession stand chair for next year, we will need two new chairs. Please keep this in mind and let the board know if you are interested.
Senior Flag chair – Miskos is closing their Kearney store but we can still use their Ord store. They have employees traveling between the 2 towns every day, so it shouldn’t delay our delivery any.
Band uniform cleaning – we are finished with the uniforms. Liberty would prefer that everyone turn their uniform in within a short time period. They can be turned in to the cleaners sooner, however you won’t receive the discount. We are looking for the time to start taking the uniforms to Liberty Cleaners to be around April. The directors will instruct the students when to start taking them in and when to turn them back in to the school. Only the coat pants and gauntlets, and bag will be cleaned. Tammy Duncan will be in charge of the uniform turn-in.
Concert black will be the uniform for the remaining concerts this year. We will be getting polo shirts as part of the band trip package. So the uniform for the performance will be black pants, polo shirts and black shoes and black socks, possibly marching band shoes. We will need to work out with Tammy Duncan when they turn in their uniform, and if they can keep their shoes for the band trip.
Hoop Heads – We have raffled 4 and also sold some, so they are out and visible, we just haven’t sold many. We will probably just put them in the Quarternotes newsletter and sell them as we do the yard signs. If we have enough orders we could then order more. However if we don’t sell them, then there is no need to order more, we will just see how things turn out.
Runza night out – February 29th 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the south Runza, we are looking for 2 to 4 helpers per shift. We have a sign that is used for Cruise Nite, that could also be used for Runza night out. We are looking for someone to create a poster to attach to the sign to entice people to come in and eat and support the band.
Deli International – March 14th – 27th this is over spring break. The orders will not be back in time for Easter, there is generally a 3 to 4 week turn around. We won’t be selling cookie dough because the middle school music programs just finished selling cookie dough. Volunteer Opportunities – We are hosting District Music contests on Saturday April 21st it is an all day event. Each parent organization will be asked for assistance in different aspects. Band Orchestra and Choir will all be involved, more information will be given after the directors organizational meeting on March 8th.
Band Association Officer openings – we need to get people started thinking about filling positions with qualified personnel. Do you know someone that would do a good job, please encourage them to volunteer to take the position. We will take nominations in April and vote in May. President Elect, and Treasurer Elect.
Directors Comments
Band Trip May 20th -24th 2012 – We don’t have an itinerary yet, we just found out when we will be performing at the Jefferson Memorial. Now we can start piecing together the rest of the schedule. There will be a lot of construction around the reflecting pool and the Lincoln monument, so we will be away from that.
A few of the items on the agenda; Jefferson Memorial on the 23rd, a clinic at Bolling Anacostia Air Force Base, Smithsonian Museum, Union Station, the show, Shear Madness, the International Spy Museum, Kennedy Center, National Archives, a Harbor Cruise Dinner and Dance on the Potomac, Old Post Office, Tour of D.C., Embassy row, National Cathedral, Ford’s Theatre, Dinner at the Hard Rock Café, Performance of the Music Man, possibly tour the Capital, Pentagon, and Arlington National Cemetery, Tour of the Monuments. Alumni Pep Band – Something new we are going to try this year. The game against Grand Island Senior High February 16th. Contact Mr. LeFeber and he will get you copies of the music. February 24th and 25th – Jazz Festival,
A lot of help will be needed for the May 3rd concert, getting all of the equipment out to the concert and back to the school. We would like to have Yandas set up sound equipment and lighting. The cost would be about $600.00. The lighting will be necessary as the natural light will be gone before the concert is finished even if we move up the time. The sound system will be used to make announcements during the concert, and for solos. We don’t have a portable sound system here at the high school. We will be introducing the Boosters and we want everyone to be able to hear. We won’t do the suggested donation at this concert since we are introducing the boosters. We have the funds available if the association would be willing to do it. In years past we have had to pay for transportation to the marching band contests. We did not have that this year.
There are a few students coming up from the middle school that are in need of instruments. We do have some to rent, but not the flutes and clarinets that these particular students play. They are very talented and Mrs. Wymore feels very strongly that they need to continue in band. We are looking for anyone that may have a horn, they would like to donate. We would either rent to them or type up a contract that if they stay in band all 4 years, then they can have the instrument. If they should not stay in band, then the instrument would come back to the department.
Photos are available to order from Heinrichs photography, proofs and order forms are on the board.
Motion to adjourn by Lynn Cooper, 2nd by Judy Meyer.
