Treasurer’s Report was given by Marci Ochsner. The report will be filed.
Tammy Madsen reports that the student accounts have been updated to include the Deli International Sales. Parents can view their balances after the meeting.
An extension has been filed for taxes. The new deadline is May 15th.
The second reading of the language adaptation for the dissolution of the association clause and the conflict of interest clause,to be incorporated in our constitution and by-laws. Also, the board decided to remove the clauses which gave a stipend to the treasurer and treasurer elect. The organization is a volunteer organization, so no one should be paid to perform their elected duties. Motion to adopt the language proposed to the constitution and articles by Nicole Carey, 2nd by Rhoda Mejia. There was no opposition, and the language will be adopted.
April 27th – Wartburg College Wind Ensemble. Originally they were going to be hosted by UNK, but it got handed off to us. They are going to have a clinic with our students and then they will have a concert that night. We are expected to feed and house the students. We will probably feed the students in the cafeteria before the concert and then families that can house the students will pick them up from the high school, feed them breakfast and bring them back to the high school to meet the bus the next morning. Students will generally be housed in groups of 2 and they are happy to have a place to sleep. We don’t have a schedule at this time.
District Music Contests – April 21st – We need people to be door/room monitors or runners. This is not a technical task, and it is very easy to do.
Old Business
May 3 – Concert at Yanney Park, light and sound from Yandas music. We are also wanting to kick off the Band Boosters that evening. The estimate is about $40.00/ hour to run plus rental and setup for $820.00. There is plenty of money in the account, so that is not a problem. We need to vote on it as an organization. The proposal was voted for without any opposition.
Scholarship – we have received 7 applicants, the recipients will be announced during Honor’s night, and the Band Banquet.
If you have an instrument that you aren’t using and are wondering what to do with it, we have some student’s coming up that are in need of an instrument. If you would be interested in donating your instrument, please contact the directors.
Fund raising – Deli International has been turned in, we don’t have a delivery date yet, but when we do get that date, your items need to be picked up that day. The date will be announced to students and it will be put on the website also. The association generally applies 10% of the profits to the general fund in order to keep things running. Because this is a trip year the board discussed not taking the 10% which would give the students more to apply toward their trip. It was voted to let the students keep the 10%, there was no opposition.
Band Booster Steering Committee – there is another meeting tonight, they will be going over a second draft of the brochure. We are in need of some good group photos. There are quite a few of marching band photos, but not so many of concert band, and the many ensembles. We want to draw attention to other aspects of our band program.

District Music Contests – We are hosting, so all of the large groups will be performing we have 24 slots. We had to hold auditions to see who would be able to perform. This is a good problem to have.
Bearcat Marching Invitational – Saturday, September 22, 2012 in conjunction with UNK Band Day. Any band that marches in the parade will be eligible to participate in the field competition. The competition will be pretty relaxed mainly for comments. Most competitions we go to have 6 judges, we will have 3 and a color guard judge. This is a way to give bands the opportunity to perform their show in a public performance in front of judges. UNK is totally on board, they are doing all of the mailings, they are going to handle all of the registration. Basically the fees will go to UNK and UNK will cut us a check. This type of event will bring more bands to their parade.
The letter that was recently sent out detailing next years calendar, is incorrect. Harvest of Harmony is always the first weekend in October, so it is October 6th. The LHS Links contest is also that weekend, we will be competing in Harvest of Harmony. Columbus on 29 or OMI on
13th, we are leaning more toward Columbus for 2 reasons, it is closer, so it would cost less and it is nice to have 2 weeks in between NSBA and the last regular season competition. NSBA will be October 20th in Omaha.
All State Auditions in Kearney on October 13th.
Trip Update – The last payment was due April 2nd. Saturday May 12, there is a trip orientation meeting for students and their parents, a lot of very important information will be given out at that time. We will have the full itinerary at that time, the meeting will include expectations, and group assignments. With the realization that this is also graduation weekend, we know that not everyone will be able to make this meeting. An alternate meeting will be on Tuesday, May 15th at 5:30, plan for one or the other meeting. There will be rehearsals that week. The clinic at the Air Force Base is already set up, we have also been invited to watch the band warm up and for a tour of the base. An opportunity that is very rare.
Uniform Cleaning – This is optional, we are trying to stretch our budget. We appreciate you taking your students uniform in to be cleaned, however they must be cleaned at Liberty Cleaners in order to keep the warranty of the uniform. Also the cleaners don’t have a lot of storage room, so they are asking that you pick up your uniform on the date that they say it will be ready. Seniors will be turning in their uniforms this week and Juniors the next week. Your student can keep there marching shoes to wear during the trip performance if they don’t have any other black close toed shoes, please leave a note to that extent in the uniform bag. Sophomores will be the 3rd week of April and Freshmen will be the 4th week. There are approximately 113 students and 20 sponsors.
