The meeting was called to order at 5:35pm by Alexis McNeal, President of KBPA. Doreen Sheen made a motion to approve the minutes. Jennifer Welkers 2nd and the minutes were approved as written.
Treasure’s report. Total deposits into the checking account were $38,292.35. The last payment for the NYC trip is due March 15th, 2016. The ledgers in Charms state the amount of the trip is $2065. Instead the trip will cost $2022. Per diem allowed to take from the student accounts is $50.00 a day. Any payments into a student’s accountants please put student’s name on the check. There was discussion about requesting payments from the student’s accounts for the trip and all of that will be discussed at the mandatory meeting on April 18th. There will be forms coming to request funds by May 1st and due back by May 15th.
The HyVee fundraiser has been a big success. The last day to either sell coupon books or turn them in is March 18th. The yearly storage rental payment is due.
We are waiting on basketball concession payment so deposits can be made into student accounts.
KHBA received a nice thank you note from the Kincaid family regarding the flowers and band uniform sent to the family.
Lighting on the Bearcats – Alexia McNeal stated the Executive Committee had come up with a recommendation to purchase a $2000 brick for the Lighting project. Eva Lynn, KHBA member who has been working with the Lighting committee told us that if we could donate $3000.00 we would get a $5000 corner brick. Doreen Sheen made a motion to contribute $3000.00. The motion was second by Ed Udan. Discussion included needs for the new building. All were in favor, there was no opposition and the motion passed to give $3000.00 to the lighting project. The Bearcat design team will draw up a couple of designs for approval.
Eva Lynn talked about a fundraiser silent auction event being held on March 26, 2016 from 2pm-5pm at KHS auditorium. To date there are about $10,600 worth of items donated. March 19th the auction will be available on line on Facebook. Set up is at 1:00. Volunteers were signed up. Eva is still looking for items to be donated and baskets to put the items in. Buffalo Wild wings will also give 10% off the day of the event, with that money being donated to the auction.

Scholarship applications are due March 18th.
Currently the Executive Board is looking for candidates for President and Treasurer-Elect. Jo Perry volunteered to be in charge of the senior flags to get them set up and taken down at every football game. Eva Lynn volunteer to chair UNK concessions at football games again next year. Other Volunteer positions that KBPA needs for the 2016-2017 school year are; Spirit wear, Concession co-chair and stadium clean up co-chair. Patti Bennett will chair the Bearcat Marching Festival and Jo Perry agreed to help out.
Mr Mitchell expressed his gratitude for the KBPA association. Without the help from the parents the band would not be able to do all they are able to do.He asked for Big Band Dance volunteers and said they would need help decorating and people to bring desserts. The Big Band Dance is April 15th. The Storm event was big fun. Everyone had a great time ice skating after playing the National Anthem.
The next concert is March 10th, it focuses on Nebraska composers. District music contest can sign up through 3/2/16. There is a limited number of spots and students will need to audition. Mr. Mitchell also voiced how important it is for parents and students to advocate in the community for band and the fine arts in general. Studies tell us that students learn to be creative when involved in the arts.
Mr. Lefeber spoke about John Jorgenson who is writing the music to have a number for the new high school. He said the dates for NYC band trip prep will be posted on the website and sent out via email. Luggage for the trip will go on the truck which leaves on May 22nd.

- August 8-9 – 1-9pm

With no further business to discuss a motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Ed Udan and second by Eva Lynn. The meeting was adjourned at 6:37pm.
