This November, our Kearney 8th grade band will make history as one of only 25 schools nationwide invited to participate in the National Parade of Heroes in Washington, D.C. — and just one of eight actually performing this year.

The journey began last March with an unexpected letter inviting our 8th grade band to perform on Veterans Day, November 11, 2025, at the Lincoln Memorial. From there, the Kearney 8th grade band was born — a collaboration between Horizon and Sunrise middle schools — joining together to honor America’s heroes in one unforgettable performance.

Our students will take the stage in a once-in-a-lifetime experience, performing alongside United States military bands during the mass band portion of the ceremony. The day’s events include a performance at the Lincoln Memorial, a processional to the World War II Memorial, and an afternoon concert at the Iwo Jima Memorial.

In all, 70 of our 90 band students will make the trip, accompanied by 28 parent chaperones, representing our community with pride and gratitude. Between visits to Arlington National Cemetery, the National Archives, Ford’s Theater, and more, our students will immerse themselves in the history and heritage of our nation’s capital.

This extraordinary opportunity comes with a significant financial commitment, and we’re asking for your support. Every contribution helps us cover travel costs, meals, and performance expenses — ensuring every student can take part in this historic journey.

Together, we can help these young musicians represent Kearney on a national stage and honor the veterans who have served our country.

Thank you for helping our band reach Washington, D.C.!
