Call to Order 7:35 pm
Welcome to all attending (40 in attendance)
Minutes from Oct. 2nd meeting – Wendy Kreis made changes on date, $, and email address. Mark Thomas motioned, 2nd by Sheryl Hansen, motion approved.
Treasurer’s Report – Marlene Lentfer- transferred a students account to Holdrege by request of Mr. Weise. A trip payment was made. Marlene noted that half of the yearly budget has been for 3 competitions and Katie for Color guard. Mr Svoboda will request money from school for reimbursement for NSBA. Still collecting money from trip, Oct 29th due date past. Need to send $42,000 by Nov 14th, travel co will be charging $100 each week we are late for our payments. Sold over $5000 in Cat Cards, most the band has sold. Tammie Duncan motioned for approval, Robbie Samuelson 2nd motion approved.
Old Business
L.A. Trip Payment – another $200 was due Oct. 29th – covered in treasure report
UNK Football Concessions – Done, Thank you to everyone that helped. Runza (TimHiggins) has asked Band Parents to cover Saturday’s playoff game since he is stretched for Volley ball. Sign up being passed around.
KHS football playoff game – Sat. Nov. 10th
Tailgate Party – Wendy Kreis reported and motioned to turn balance to Turf, Tammy Duncan counter motioned for 10% to go to general fund and balance to Turf Fund. Wendy amended her motion to Tammy’s, Mark Thomas 2nd. 10% to general fund, balance to the Turf Fund. Voted – Sheryl Hansen discussed whether 10% was enough, Marlene L recommended the 10%, approved.
Cat Cards – Done – Discussed in treasurer report
Butter braids – Jeff Girard & Reesa Bebb – Return Orders by Nov. 7th. Pick-up Butterbraids – Tues. Nov. 20- volunteers needed still, will need to be here by 2-2:30 for distribution and after school for pick up. Names on order forms very important.
Hockey Clean-up – Shawna Skaggs – The first night was longer, 2nd Friday game was only an hour and 15. Still need parent sign up for Nov 23rd. Jan 4, 11, 18 and Feb 8th same nights as BB concessions.
Stand clean ups for Saturday needed for the play off game.
Email list for Anaheim posted for kids to update, parents review. For Marlene to keep payment schedules and info current.
New Business
Basketball Concessions – First games-Fri. Dec. 7th (6 & 7:45pm boys & girls) Sign up going around. Sign up once per band student first. We do HS Varsity Boy and Girls home games. Mr Svoboda is checking to see if Band can start Pep Bands after the holidays.
Christmas Gift Wrap – Jeanne Thorn – still waiting to hear details.
Directors’ Comments, Veterans Day Parade Info & L.A. Trip Update
Mr Svoboda: Symphonic Band update – implemented some music writing techniques, once a week, studying music history. Has been very happy to be able to provide pep band for state playoffs, seniority for pep band when it comes to state, 45-60 students are selected, athletic department pays for the band to get it. 1 bus load usually. List going around for this Saturday’s game. If we go to finaals in Lincoln on Friday 16th, Mrs. Svobada will bring bus load down to Lincoln. Veteran’s Day Parade is on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm, Public school lends to possible predicaments. Mr. Svogada went to superintendent and principle, The Band leadership feels we have an obligation to community and our veterans and an obligation to our band members to be there in full force. Not fair for kids to be there and not in full performance. This is a big struggle, the Directors are appealing to the kids, Superintendant says it is ok to have a Sunday performance, as parents you can direct your concerns directly to Dr. Maher. We expect kids to be there at 1:30, will last no longer than 10 minutes. if you have a family obligation please send a note to the directors. Work is not a family activity, this can affect Lettering. Line up 1:30 central & railroad, do not have order of parade yet. For the Future Mr Svobada recommends having the Band Parents make an executive decision on whether we have performances/functions on Sundays.
LA Trip – Omaha and KS are most likely the launching areas, 1 band director with Omaha group and 1 band director with Kansas City. Let kids choose flights so can travel with friends. Transportation department is being asked if we can use school buses for transportation to Omaha and Kansas City much cheaper than chartering. Larger instruments sent in an equipment truck is recommended. Saves a lot of hassle. If interested contact Mr. Svobada. Final price is looking to be $950-960. Thanked Marlene and Susan for their time. No uniforms for sure.
NSBA – very excited about performance, missed a Superior rating by 1 point. Scored 93- 96 in individual music. What makes our band unique and what we are proud of is that nobody gets benched everyone plays, there will be no cuts, and Freshman march their first year. Band is not done, only the marching season is over. There is so much going on: Symphonic, Concert, Jazz, Pep etc…
Mr. Mitchell: physical trophies are not the focus, the kids are the trophies. Music is a passion for the kids and that is the biggest trophy. Band Parents organization is very active for Marching Band, what can parents due during concert band season. #1- Encourage kids to keep practicing #2- Private lessons.
