Directors’ Comments
Rick’s comments, lots of opportunities for band, pep’s, district music contest, Jazz Band trip, Musicalia, etc.. Encourage kids to audition for this event. District Music Contest, Fri and Saturday April 18 & 19th. 19 kids are preparing solos for Friday, Saturday is the larger groups. These performances are judged and get rated. Encourage kids to practice for District Music Contest. We are a host site for this event. Orchestra and Chamber sponsor this event. This takes a lot of people to put on, passing a sign up for volunteers. Friday 4-8:30, Saturday is 8-1. Color guard has been selected, Leadership interviews late April, Early May. Drum line try outs also.
Aaron’s comment – Band Trip meeting on April 28th at 7:00pm with travel agent here in band room. Thank parents for their patience. Aaron apologized that he has dropped the ball on a couple of things and delayed final numbers. Aaron apologized to Marlene and Susan for delaying this process and thanked them for their hard work. Final trip cost is $1049.00, travel agent has made a bulk pricing for a per person cost, period. Transportation greatest delay, trying to find most cost effective way. Everything is locked in. Flute, obo and clarinet carry on or in suite case. Trumpet on up will be shipped under the plane. pre-lim itinerary: Dept Omaha or KS, arrive then right to CA Adventure/Downtown Disney. Hotel after 8:30, next day Hollywood stuff in the a.m., 6 Flags for the day until 6pm to Medieval Times for dinner until 9, , then next day all day long – Sound Track session, site read with clinicians, then music is set to animation. Session is about 90 minutes. Go back to Disney for Fireworks. Then home next day.
For warn everyone – only about 180 signed up for next year, about 50 8th graders total, only losing about 6 students total. Numbers dropped in Sophomores and Juniors. Size is not everything, the band is going well. This is the smallest 8th grade in 11 years.
Any shirts or attire for 90 minute clinic, there are certain rules, Aaron is checking. Everything has to be school appropriate, sponsors may need to be unified but not necessarily the student. Marlene suggested kids wear a Program shirt or section shirt. Buckle will do a special shirt for about $8-9 a person. Still open for discussion.
Photo id’s for kids, under age 16 does not require but helps. Passports, etc fine.
