- Welcome to all attending
- Minutes from the Feb 3rd 2009 meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Wendy Kreis and 2nd by Scott Lentfer to approve the minutes and the motion was carried.
Treasurer’s Report
- Shawna Skaggs reviewed account activity. A $600.00 deposit was entered for those committing to the Sugar Bowl trip. Junkman Recycling donated $19.35 from the collection of aluminum cans. The checking account earned $2.78 in interest. Currently, the account shows a balance of $5,599.65.
Mr. Mitchell explained the district music contest will be held on April 25th & 25th in Kearney and volunteers will be needed. A sign-up sheet was passed around for both the district music contest and to help distribute the Butterbraid orders on Tuesday, April 7th.
Old Business
- Per Shawna Skaggs there is one hockey clean-up date left, Friday March 6th.
- Robbie Samuelson reported on the BB Concessions. There is some candy left over and the popcorn is all gone. The amount of money earned per shift should be available for the March meeting.
- Mary Girard reported on the Bid Band Dance concessions. A total of $221.20 was earned. After the 10% to the Band Parents general fund a total of $199.08 was divided among those who either donated a dessert or worked a concession shift. $7.11 per unit was earned.
New Business
- Nominations are needed for new board members. The President- elect position is a three year commitment (learn-do-coach) while the Secretary is a two year position. A Treasurer-elect is also needed.
- Band Scholarships will be awarded at the Band Banquet in May. Applications will be taken through April 15th.
- Butterbraid sales will begin March 11th. Pam Thomas reported that we are being charged $6.50/unit and that the decision was made by the Executive Board to sell them at $12.00 a piece this year.
Fundraisers
- A call was made for a group to address possible fundraisers during the summer. This is needed due to the deceased timeframe to earn money for the student’s accounts as the trip is scheduled for Dec. ’09. Discussion included the concession stand for Cruise Night in July and possibly a food stand at the county fair. Please contact President Ed Uden if interested in participating.
Director’s Comments
- Auditions were held for next years’ 27-member color guard.
- Kearney Bands has a Facebook page. Ed Uden stated he would add a link to this on the bands website.
- Mr. Mitchell requested that parents encourage students to practice their instruments at home. An extra 20 minutes 2-3 times per week really makes a difference in the way they sound.
- Mr. Svoboda gave a Powerpoint presentation on the Sugar Bowl-New Orleans trip. He reviewed the type of things the students will experience including the history and architecture of the city and outlined a tentative schedule.
- Dec 28th-depart from Kearney. The bus trip will take 18 hours.
- Dec 29th-arrive in New Orleans. Go to the Riverwalk along the Miss. River. The students will have the opportunity to shop and eat at the food court.
- Dec. 30th-watch the Sugar Bowl Field Competition. Perform at Jackson Square. Sightsee including the St Louis Cathedral and that evening go on a haunted history tour in the French Quarters. This will last around 2 hrs and is a walking tour. Walking tours cost $17.00 per person.
- Dec. 31st- Mass band rehearsal. The afternoon will include walking tours and that evening they will spend time at MardiGras World for dinner and a dance.
- Jan. 1, 2010-Band rehearsal, then lunch followed by pre-game and half time performances.
- Payment installments for the remainder of year ($50.00 already down). May 1-$250.00; August 1-$250.00 with the remainder due Nov. 1.
Parent’s Comments and Questions
- A parent asked if the performances for the trip will be video taped for a memento of the trip.
- Another parent asked if Super Bowl tickets will be available for those not traveling on the buses to New Orleans as they would like to sit with the group. So far approximately 24 adults are signed up for the trip. Mr. Svoboda will check into the questions.

- With no further comments Bruce Brooks motioned to adjourn and Robbie Samuelson 2nd. The motion was carried.
