The meeting was called to order by President Matt Bamesberger.

Reading of Minutes
- The minutes from October were reviewed with the following correction. Under Football Stadium clean-up it should read “2 adults and 1 student…”A motion to approve as corrected was made by Ed Uden and seconded by Arlyn Hinrichs.
Treasurer’s Report
- The Treasurer’s Report through November 1st was shared. Questions regarding the report need to be directed to Sandy Christensen. The report was filed. As a point of order, Jim Payne asked if our annual audit is being conducted. It is in progress. Pres-elect Ronda J. shared there will be another large bill ($600) from Moonlighting for the window decals when the invoice is received.
Committee Reports
- Senior Flags-looking for new designs for next year. The stands need to be re-built (too small) so we are looking for volunteers to work on this over the next several months. Ronda J. is working on ‘Spirit Mom’ duties for next year and asks that parents rotate helping to get the flags up and down next year.
- Spirit items-we have an extra medium-sized long sleeve band parent t-shirt for $15.00. Please contact Ronda Jaeschke for purchase. Shawna Skaggs has one medium-sized senior t-shirt available for $8.00. Any ordered items from the summer not yet picked up will be given to the students by the directors.
- KHS Instrument -NAPA Auto Care Vehicle Health Check fundraiser-sales will continue through the end of November. This fundraiser benefits the instrument fund and the vehicle check can be used through January 31st. Seandra Foryth and George Quinn (NAPA) presented the information on NTV’s ‘Good Morning Nebraska’ and will present on KGFW radio. Discussed these would be great gifts for businesses to give to employees, elderly neighbor, grandparents, college student etc. A parent shared that the auto check had saved her a flat tire on the way to NSBA as the shop had found a nail in her tire.
Old Business
- Cat Card-monies are due Friday 10/29.
- Mall Gift Wrap fundraiser-Tiffany Young and Marci Ochsner are still waiting to hear from the mall regarding what week we will be assigned to so we can begin having parents/students sign up for gift wrapping. - Concession Stand Co-chair-Tiffany Young has been appointed and accepted. Matt will clarify if a one or two year term.
- NSBA Pictures-will be available soon. The vendor had to process over 6000 photos. See band website for updates.
New Business
Director’s Comments
- NSBA-the directors reported that they are very proud of the students and the way they performed. They felt the show was the best of the year. The students have been successful, well behaved and maintained an elevated level of energy. Next year they would like to see competitions with tougher judges earlier, before NSBA, as the bar has been raised. Mr. Mitchell shared our principle had questions about the assessment tools used for the contest as the band dropped 15 points from one contest to the next. NSBA is a difficult contest and the directors saw the band continuing to improve. A parent commented on the elaborate auxiliary props etc. some schools use. It was shared that the theatrical presentation is half the score of the visual elements. Currently our band program spends half of the budget on marching season.
- NSBA continued-the Omaha site for the AA bands had all out-of-state judges while the bands performing at Lincoln had a mix of both in-state and out-of-state judges. A question was raised about whether or not there are judging ‘National Standards’. This was the first year that bands in Nebraska were ‘seeded’ based on previous years’ scores. Also, this was the first year bands have been given 1st, 2nd and 3rd awards based on total scores. In March, the NSBA membership meets and there will likely be discussion on this past year including the possibility of video inservicing to let the judges know expectations.
- 2012 Band Trip-the band will fly to Washington D.C. and the anticipated cost could be around $1200.00 per person. Memorial weekend will be packed so they are looking into the weekend following. Possibly they will perform at a memorial and work with the military bands in a clinic setting plus sightsee.
- The Army band – will be working with the students on Wednesday during classes.
- Veteran’s Day Parade-Nov. 11th the students will be dismissed early and will march from Railroad and Central to MONA.
- Pep band-students are assigned to a blue or gold team and are required to perform a certain number of times plus two additional. This is part of the lettering requirements.
