Minutes from September meeting were sent out via email prior to October meeting. Motion to approve minutes as reported by Susan Sorgenfrei and 2nd by Bruce Brooks, minutes were approved.
Old Business
Parent orders need to be picked up. Ronda has shirt orders and decals left to be picked up by parents. She will no longer be bringing the orders to the football games or to band parents meeting, so anyone wanting to pick up their order needs to contact Ronda to make arrangements to pick up from her.
Senior Flags at Kearney Home football games: They will continue to put up the senior band flags up at the remaining home football games but need assistance from parent to help set them up. There are 31 flags and more help is needed. Stands are under the stadium, and setup will start at 6:00 pm.
Football Stadium Cleanup: 2 parents and 1 student will get credit for the time spent for stadium cleanup. To keep it fair for all students, additional family members, like siblings or other relative may help but only 3 will get credit for their actual time.
UNK Football Concessions: people are signed up for concessions.
Napa Auto Care Fundraising Opportunity: Seandra Forysth is the committee chairperson. She will be meeting with contact on Tuesday. She will contact with those who signed up. Anyone wanting to contact her may do so through the KBPA Executive Board contact form.
Senior T-shirts: Last night to order senior t-shirts. Orders will be sent to the buckle. Shirt cost is $8. Shawna and/or Kyleigh will deliver as soon as order is received from the Buckle.
Treasurer Report: None given due to technical problems.
New business
Cat Cards: The Foundation printed only 4200 for the High School this year because some many were returned last year. Because the number of cat cards was limited, the Band unfortunately didn’t get as many as they received last year. Last year the band received 1500 but this year only received 750. That is why there is a shortage this year. They are working on getting more cat Cards. If your student took cards home and are not selling them, turn them back into the directors so they can be sold by someone else.
Non-profit status: We have our new non-profit federal ID # and are waiting for the certificate. Next step in the process is getting the 501c3 status.
Basketball concessions: we have a few names interested for chairperson, if you are interested please contact one of the executive board members.
Christmas Gift Wrap: We need a Christmas gift wrap chair person/co-chairs. Tiffani Young and Marci Ochsner volunteered to be co-chairs for this fundraising activity. Treasurer has a folder with the Christmas Gift wrap information.
Uniforms: an Extra pair of shoes size 12 were left over from Harvest of Harmony. If they are your students please contact Jayce Lux or Tammie Duncan. Also a reminder to all students that they need to take care of their uniforms including their hats. Some hats were not stored in their hat boxes between the parade and the marching competition and were found inside their uniform bags.
Director comments
Mr. Svoboda wanted to especially thank all the parents for the help they provided at Harvest of Harmony, including the PIT Dads and the band mom’s. Saturday was AWESOME, it was great to bring home the “hardware” Good Score, Good Show but still room for improvement. Rules are different in marching band competition compared to an athletic judge. As the season progresses judging will get progressively more critical because you should be improving. He said he was very proud of the band, off to a great start! Awesome job!! Also note that KHS Queen candidate Libby Syzmanski placed fifth.
Mr. Mitchell: Told story of how a Freshman band member said she was proud to be in the KHS Band. We are bigger and more disciplined. Saturday October 9th is Allstate Auditions open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. There are other honor bands in the future; UNK, Wesleyan and UNO. Thanks also to the Band parents for all their help Saturday.
October 15th Band Exhibition band meet at Fine Arts building at 6:00PM. March to Foster field at 6:45 PM for Exhibition.
NSBA is at Omaha Millard South High School.
Next Band Trip: Announcement will be made in the next week or two.
