Director’s Comments
- Mr. Svoboda: the concert this week starts at 7:00 and not the usual 7:30 pm. The Jazz Ensemble will play during the Senior Honors Night. Drum Major tryouts were held with nine students all who were very qualified. Next year Rachel Leigh and Mollie Rozean will join Anna Nelson as Drum Majors. Leadership team interviews are beginning. Mr. Svoboda shared that one of the selling points as a director of this band is the band parent organization and how supportive this organization has been of the band. As we look at possible cuts to the budget at KPS he encouraged as stakeholders in this school district the organization stand up and be vocal about what we see as important for the students.
- Mr. Mitchell: district music went well. We had 23 solos or small groups participating. Fifteen students earned Superiors, while seven or eight received an Excellent rating. Shelby Anderson-Holt received Outstanding Performance and Mollie Rozean and Rachael Leigh received Honorable Mention. Next year’s marching band theme will be Cirque Du Soleil, the performance will be professionally written next year. Commitment forms for the May 20-24, 2012 to Washington DC are due but another opportunity will be offered in August.
There being no further comments Ed Uden made a motion to adjourn. Darin Meseure 2nd and all were in agreement.
Respectfully submitted, Mary Girard-Secretary
