Motion to approve the minutes by Tiffani Young and 2nd by Jaycee Lux.
Treasurer’s Report was given by Marci Ochsner. The report will be filed.
Student Account Report was given by Tammy Madsen. All concession amounts are in and Deli International amounts will be in as soon as possible – should be in by the April 2 final trip payment due date. Please see Tammy after the meeting if you want to check your students’ account.
New Business:
Taxes – 501C(3) info should be mailed on Friday by Shawna Skaggs, former Treasurer, and employee of Contryman and Assoc.
Language is needed to be added to the Amended Constitution and Articles of Association. This must be read at 2 parent meetings before it can be added. Conflict of Interest and Dissolution of Association for tax purposes is added as well as eliminating stipends for Treasurer, Treasurer Elect and fundraising chairs. If anyone has any questions or comments, please email or call a board member or director. No motion to adopt as proposed is needed at this time as this is just informational only.
Old Business
May concert at Yanny – tabled as details are still being worked out.
Runza Night – Since January was a warm month and Runza’s Temperature Tuesdays didn’t go over well for them they chose to give free Runzas away the night of our planned Runza Night. Due to this, our night was cancelled. Tim Higgins, owner or Runza, was apologetic and offered us to have our Runza Night at both locations next year to make up for the loss of this year.
Uniform cleaning – This will begin in April and Liberty must be used to keep the warranty intact.
Directors will be sending out a letter in the next few weeks with tons of info – including trip info, District Music Contest, uniform cleaning.
KHS Band Ambassador Scholarship deadline is Friday 3/16. Two applications have been received so far.
Instrument Donations – Keep in mind and visit with directors if you are interested in donating.
Fundraiser opportunity – Deli International begins 3/14.
Basketball Concessions – Tiffani Young – Stadium cleanup earned $800. 16 concession games earned $7836.70 profit which equaled $.33/minute or $19.57/hour. Great year! All bills were paid quickly and money is in your students’ account.
Big Band Dance – Arlene Jones – Went great! There were extra volunteers and cleanup went great. Arlene volunteered to chair next years’ event. There is a video clip of the dance on the Hub’s website.
Band Banquet – Julie Hofer – Junior parents are in charge – please stay after the meeting for a junior parent meeting. She has invitation help but needs decoration help. Bamebergers have senior flags.
Booster steering committee – Mr. Lefeber – had a meeting and the brochure will be made for free. Needs were stated and how you can help. The Booster kickoff will be at the Yanny concert in May. He plans to take a list of boosters to businesses. The KPS Foundation has the account set up. They will give a spreadsheet to us, send mailers, thank you letters, tax info and use their discounted postage rate. They keep 3%.
Volunteers for 2012-13 season – a list of volunteers are needed to kick off the 2012-13 season. Needed volunteers include: water for competitions, window decals, senior flags, yard signs, apparel, pride buttons.
Bearcat Festival – Mr. Lefeber announced that KHS will host the First Annual Bearcat Festival in coordination with UNK Band Day. Smaller schools will be here. This will provide revenue through ticket sales and possibly having the band provide lunch over the lunch hour. UNK moved their football game an hour later. Details will be discussed over Spring Break. This will be held at Joe Greeno Field.
District Music Contest – Volunteers will be needed for District Music contest on Saturday 4/21, not Friday 4/20 as earlier scheduled. GI was to be the location of the event however they had a scheduling conflict. Kearney graciously volunteered to host this event. The band will perform in the morning and the jazz band in mid morning. Solos and small groups will perform later – auditions were held for the first time – there were 19 spots available and more than 19 solos and small groups were interested. We will need volunteers for door monitors and runners for 1-2 hour time spots. Orchestra does concessions. Tuesday, April 17 will be a recital for solos and small groups and will be open to the public.
New officers will be needed in May – the President Elect and Treasurer Elect positions will be available.
Fundraising Openings – Cruise Nite co-chairs with Tammy and Justin Madsen for 2 years
Basketball concessions co-chairs – 1 year term – November through March – Todd Ochsner has volunteered to help the new chairs with setting up the first game.
Stadium Cleanup – 1 year term – home football games and districts
Director comments
Colorguard auditions – Mr. Mitchell – 17 returning veterans – over 60 auditioned for 30 spots! Great recruitment by senior colorguard members who went to the middle schools to speak to the band students. There will be a change to colorguard this year – no longer part of the school day. There will be a colorguard meeting the end of March and a letter will be sent.
Deli Internation fundraiser – kick off tomorrow March 14 and will continue through March 27. Students will have a packet including 2 brochures, one food and one gift. This is the last fundraiser before final trip payment is due. Make sure order forms are filled out correctly and the 3/27 payment due date is vital as the company will send statement within a couple of days with student amount made to be added to student account for payment.
Alumni Pepband – Mr. Lefeber – Only 5 Alumni attended – not as big as hoped but will continue for years to come.
UNO Jazz Festival – 51 kids attended and heard phenomenal bands including Doc Seversen who was amazing! The kids were tired but still went shopping. There was no cost to the students thanks to the Big Band Dance.
Trip update – Working with travel agent to finalize itinerary. On May 22, the band will be at the United States Air Force Band for a tour and lunch and a clinic. Other stops will be the International Spy Museum and several monuments, a comedy interactive show called Shear Madness. On May 23, the students will perform at the Jefferson Monument. Luggage and instruments will be taken by UHaul. Matt and Barb Bamesberger will be driving the UHaul and will need to leave 2 days earlier than the students with the luggage and instruments. Before they leave, the students will have a final rehearsal. Students need to keep their luggage to one suitcase and remember the truck will be hot. Luggage will also not be back to Kearney until 2 days after the students. They may take a carry on onto the plane and a backpack and/or purse/bag. There will be a meeting with parents to go over rules, etc. and a contract to sign. If you are going on the trip and are over 18 years old you must turn in your Social Security number for the Air Force base. April 2 is the final trip payment due date. It will be around $350 for a total of $1300-1400 for the trip. All students should have paid $1050 as of this time. The flight will be out of Omaha and the transportation to the airport is still being bid. Once this is bid, an exact amount for the final payment will be known. A polo shirt will be included in the final cost.
