Committee Reports
Band Banquet – Everything is on schedule, decorating will begin at 2:00 P.M.
Donations of plates can be dropped off to the directors.
There was some discussion about the board positions. We are needing a President – elect and a treasurer – elect.
Band Booster Steering Committee – We have been trying to find a way to replace our aging equipment. One idea is to hand out flyers at the spring concert that explains some of our needs with a tear off card to send in a donation. These will be handled through the foundation and is tax deductible. Lips donated the printing if we would add their logo. As people donate they will be added to the tiered donation system labeled musically. This list will then be used when we go to corporations asking for donations, showing that we have individuals helping the band.

Directors Comments
A big thank you to the band parents organization and the board members that will be coming off of the board Marci Ochsner and Matt Bamesberger.
District Music Contests – We hosted and it was a very successful day. We had to hold auditions to see who would be able to perform. This is a good problem to have. 20 small groups performed there were 16 superiors and 4 excellent ratings. Jazz ensemble received an excellent rating. Jazz lab band and concert band received a superior rating and symphonic band received a superior plus rating. Which means the superior rating was unanimous and they received a plaque. Thanks again to the parents that helped!
Wartburg College Wind Ensemble – It was a last minute ordeal and again the band parents stepped up to help out, thank you very much. They gave a really great concert. The band has a lot of traditions, such as handing out awards at the evening meal, which really brought them closer together.
Musicalia – Music department variety show. The kids have to audition and is a great way to end the year.
Our Budget – We are running into a situation where the band program budget is being cut and the Directors are being expected to pay for more things that the school district used to take care of. The cost of some things are going up drastically and we need to see if there are other things we can do to supplement the budget. The directors feel it is the school district’s responsibility to provide support, therefore they are going to ask each year for these things and not just take no for an answer. However, in the meantime there are things that need to be covered. The Boosters activities account can only be used for things such as instruments. The Band Boosters support will need to be used for capital improvements, which are things that will be used for several years. One of the things coming up quickly is a decision on additional staff for marching band. We have people help us with the colorguard, drumline and pit. We are currently paying them a lot less than schools that we are competing against. The directors, with the help of the Association, would like to pay the drumline and pit instructors each $800.00 and the colorguard instructor $1,600.00. They do NOT have this in their budget and are looking to the Band Parent Association to cover this upcoming expense. This expense would be an annual review and approval required by the Association. Our mission is to provide assistance and support to the band program and its directors, but must stay within the financial abilities of the Association without jeopardizing its sustainability.
Trip Update – There will be rehearsals after school from 3:30 – 5:00 during the last week of school. Saturday May 12, there is a trip orientation meeting for students and their parents, a lot of very important information will be given out at that time. We will have the full itinerary at that time, the meeting will include expectations and group assignments. With the realization that this is also graduation weekend, we know that not everyone will be able to make this meeting. An alternate meeting will be on Tuesday, May 15th at 5:30, plan for one or the other meeting. The U-haul will be loaded on the 18th right after rehearsal with luggage and instruments. Luggage will need to be picked up on the 26th, if you can’t pick it up at this time, please make arrangements with someone to pick it up for you. This will also be an opportunity to check out your school instrument for the summer if needed.
Concert at Yanney – Make sure to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. Students need to be there at 6:00.
Motion to adjourn by Lynn Cooper, 2nd by Jayce Lux.
