Welcome everyone!
Meeting was called to order by President Lynn Cooper.
31 Parents are in attendance.
The minutes were read by all. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Marlene Hansen and a 2nd by Alexis McNeil. The minutes will be filed.
Bearcat Festival went very well, Thank you to Tracey Falconer and everyone that volunteered to help! The gate fees were between $700 and $800 and then there was a few hundred in concession stand profits, plus the registration fees form the bands that performed. The bands all thought it went well and want to return next year.
Columbus Festival – Parade: no awards we given for the parade, but were ranked and we received 3rd place. We were only 2 points behind the 1st place band Grand Island Senior High. Field Competition: We received a 2 in the field competition.
Paid marching instructors: Some complaints have surfaced about the instructors not being there for all of the practices. Colorguard is only supposed to be there Thursday nights. The instructors have been there, like they signed up to be. You can contact the directors with any questions.
Marching Baritone – We approved the purchase of an instrument last month, not many questions were asked at the time of the approval. The instrument has arrived and we have been able to use it for a performance.
A question was asked about how many instruments do we need to replace. Mr. Mitchell explained that the school owns some of the more expensive instruments, that would be extremely hard for families to purchase, but are vital to the quality of the sound of the band. At one time the school budgeted money for the purchase of instruments and then the amount that was budgeted became less and less. The instruments that were originally purchased are constantly getting repaired and the sound isn’t as good as it used to be. Money has been requested in the form of 2 grants from the foundation. We won’t hear about those requests until October 12th.
Booster club donations have seemed to slow lately, does anyone have ideas about how to get word out?
$550 was used to purchase supplies for the Pit Front. A student has gotten a group together to paint the scenes on these to be used during our performances.
Next year’s chair for senior flags: If you request that they use 4 grommets they will do that for no extra fees. There were enough complaints, they will now do that.
Treasurer’s Report: was given by Tammy Madsen. There were no questions/discussion.
Directors Comments
The kids have been working very hard and wanting to stay after school to practice. Which creates a wonderful problem. We are running out of places to practice. All of the practice time has been evident in the sound and confidence during performances. We are implementing a silent rehearsal. One where only the directors, drum majors and leaders are allowed to speak. The focus was amazing. Columbus competition, the individual scores were where the lower scores occurred. Kids weren’t confident in their music or where they needed to be on the field.
Cat Cards are available. You can pick some up this evening. Either prepay for them or write a check and we will hold on to the check until you tell us it is OK to cash it. Limit of 10 – 15 unless you prepay for them.
The 3 band classes have been working well and there has been a lot of improvement.
Itineraries will be placed on the website. Look for more information there.
Ed could always use more people to help set out the pit fronts. The pit crew is fully engaged and we just need more to help with the extra equipment.
$397.00 was made at the Harvest Festival
Stadium cleanup has been going well.
UNK concessions: More sign-ups are going around. If not enough help is found, we will turn it back to Runza to be able to find help for that game.
Fundraising ideas are always welcome. If you have ideas, please bring it to our attention
Last year we were able to place a picture of the band for approximately $100 – $150. If we are able to put the band’s photo in the program and it costs, do we want to do it?
A motion to put the band picture in the NSBA program for $100 -$150 was made by Ed Uden and a 2nd by Todd Oschner. There was no discussion , the motion was approved.
