Scrip fundraiser – Marlene Hansen- A way of raising money without selling a product, but rather purchasing gift cards for places that you already go to. Would like to get the program up and running in July. Each retailer has a certain percentagethat they return to Scrip in return for selling gift cards. Scrip refunds that amount to the organization, which can then go to individual accounts. There are several ways to utilize the gift card system. You can pay for the cards with a check and get a gift card within 1 week. You can pay for the cards with a debit card and get the gift card within 1 week. There are a few retailers that will allow you to purchase with a debit card and then receive a code to use immediately. Marlene sent around a notebook to start getting emails of those interested so she can get this information set up ahead of time.
Marlene will be the Scrip coordinator next year. Questions concerning this program can be sent through the KBPA Executive Board contact form.
Scholarship winners were Chase Christensen and Mollie Rozean, Alex Woodside is the alternate in the event one of the winners does not use their scholarship within the alotted time frame. Runza night: We earned approximately $350 between both stores. We were able to use both stores this year, because we didn’t get to use any last year. The Temperature tuesday wasn’t a good seller, too warm of weather. So the Tim Higgins graciously allowed us to use both stores this year. Generally we only get the South store.
Cruise Night: Saturday July 20th
Darin and Lisa Meseure are the chairs, they are still looking for a co-chair. In the past few years the profits have been going down. We are looking to change our set-up to hopefully cash in on a different market. If this year doesn’t work as well as anticipated we will be able to revert back to our previous set-up with the Central Auto Club. We will have 4 satellite positions each may have a different item to sell, so each spot isn’t competing with another for the same customer. A customer could essentially purchase something different from each satelite location. We will have signage at each location so it will be very well known each location is the Kearney Band Parent Association. We will be able to set up a card table size booth which we can sell, soda, water, candy.

Band camp this upcoming year will be 2 weeks for everyone. July 29th – Aug 2nd and Aug 5th -9th. The first week will be just in the evening. Leadership will meet for a couple of hours in the early afternoon. Summer Stampede is August 5th and 6th, so we will need to accommodate that for 1day. We will more than likely meet in the morning, let them off at noon, so they can attend the Stampede, then come back in the evening. If your student has a conflict, please contact the directors. They will be able to work something out, but they do need to know. No snacks will be needed for the first week of band camp. Exhibition will be the Friday of the last week of band camp.

Director’s Comments
Students awards and letters- If you feel that your student was left out, mistakes do happen, please contact the Directors and let them know of the possible mistake. If your student has done the work, but didn’t turn in the form yet, there is still time.
Musicalia- A talent show put on by the music departments. Band, Orchestra and Chorus. They have to audition to get into the show. Most of the acts are put together by the students themselves. We generally have about 50 auditions for 10 – 12 spots. The house was packed. Mr. LeFeber graciously donated the shaving of his beard in the style that was voted in. This itself raised almost $400.00. $2800 was raised from musicalia. This money along with grant money raised through Class Act. They will match up to $4300. This will purchase all new posture chairs in the music department.
Colorguard Parents: you should have received a letter in the mail detailing practices throughout the summer.
Heroes Fallen Not Forgotten will be the marching show for next season..
The first trip payment for the Chicago trip was due on Wednesday. You still have time to sign your student up, so far we have about 115 signed to go. We are trying to keep the trip between $500 and $600. There is a link on the website. Parents are also welcome to come. The price will be the same, we are asking for separate forms for each person going on the trip.
There is a tab on the website with some summer camps if you are interested in sending your student.
There are a couple of parades this summer. We don’t normally march in parades during the summer, so we are going to connect with UNK and even alumni that would like to march in the parade. Anyone with ties to Kearney High or UNK. There will be a parade for the Shrine bowl that will be held at UNK and another for the Lincoln Highway Centennial Celebration. The rehearsal times for the parade will be put on the website. The Kearney High School fight song will be the music that will be played. There will be a pdf on the website with the music if you are interested.
With the new format for band camp there are several things that will be run differently. When those things are ironed out, they will be placed on the website.
We have a new cargo trailer, an anonymous donor raised the funds independently from a few additional donors, 20 some, to purchase the trailer for the band. There should be plenty of room for all of the equipment to go in this 1trailer. Basically the all of the band room contents went in for the concert at Yanney with room to spare. We will still need to outfit the trailer with items to keep the contents secure while traveling, as well as a spare tire, locks for the doors and the tongue. The estimated price for these items will be about $650.00. We would love to be able to put a decal on the side of the trailer advertising the band. If anyone knows of someone with graphic arts talent, we would like to come up with a design.
Bearcat Band Boosters: $12,000 has been raised over the last year. The foundation requested a total amount of money needed to fund all of the projects. They would like to do a capital campaign for this amount. They know that there are so many people/organizations asking for money for this and that and everything else. The foundation and their grant writers would like to ask for the donation 1 time with a listing of items the donations would go for. We would like to raise $250,000.00, this sounds like a lot to you and me, the fundraisers think this is a very workable amount
The amount of money that the director’s are looking for to have the trailer outfitted is $650.00. This years budget we did have a line item of $800 for the lighting and sound system rental for the concert at Yanney. We didn’t use this money, Dave Klein donated his time and equipment for our concert. The items to secure the contents of the trailer that we are looking at are a grid system, something that can be easily adjusted according to different placement of items. So we don’t have to be locked in to always packing things the same way. The floor will also need to have some type of protection on it to help it last a long time. This will hopefully eliminate our need to rent vehicles from the school. Since the trailer is technically the band parent association’s property, we can technically have anyone tow the trailer with their vehicle. It must be at least a ¾ ton vehicle. If someone is pulling the trailer with their vehicle we will need to make sure they have enough insurance to cover a complete loss of the trailer and it’s contents in case of an accident. We are looking for donors for the lease of a truck. Does anyone have connections to a fuel company, maybe someone that would donate some of the fuel. We will have 3 trips next year.
A motion was made to purchase what is needed to outfit the trailer by Lisa Meseure.
It was mentioned that generally when you start purchasing and actually installing equipment you will run into necessities such as drill bits. However, Mid Plains Equipment said if we purchased the grid system from them, they would install it for free, in approximately 1 hour.
We are looking for storage inside a building. The school is unable to provide this storgare room. Sheen’s may have a building we can store the trailer in for some time. Maybe not for 4 years, but right now they are able to find a place in their building.
It was mentioned that we really shouldn’t leave the monetary amount open ended, just to cover ourselves, we should put a cap amount on the motion.
Lisa amended her motion to include a cap amount of $800. A second was made by Marci Oschner. All were in favor.
Duck Race- Lisa from United way presented a fundraiser that will be coming up pretty quickly. If you would like to have your student sell ducks. Each duck sold would have a profit of $1per duck. This is something that not everyone has to participate in, but it does need to be done by a group. The payment would have to be sent to the band parents organization, not to the individual student. Since this cannot be a student led fundraiser, it would have to fall under the parents. This may be better discussed in the spring when school isn’t so close to being out for the summer. We can invite Lisa back next March.
The quarternotes will be linked on the website.
A motion to adjourn was made by Todd Oschner and a second by Arlene Jones.
