Welcome, Everyone, to the 2013-14 year!
Meeting was called to order by President Jolene Berke.
45 Parents were in attendance plus the directors.
Copies of the minutes were available and distributed. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Doreen Sheen, second by Trina Shaw. The minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report from Brent Meyer: Checking $16,529.38, Scrip Account $100.00, Student Accounts $14,944.12, Savings Account $3282.06.
Old Business
Scrip Fundraiser – Marlene has Scrip cards for early delivery for those who ordered. $94.28 has already been added to our general fund and $94.28 added to student accounts thanks to Scrip. We have handouts available on how to use Scrip and after the meeting Marlene is available to visit with you if you have questions.
Cruise Nite – Had a successful day, similar to 2011 after proceeds being down in 2012. New set-up worked well.
Quarter Notes/Band Handbook – extra copies are available in print and online. Last page of student handbook is signature page, list of those needing to turn it in yet are on the board.
New Business
Volunteer Opportunities – many opportunities available, please get involved!
- Pit Crew – Ed Uden, Chair. Moving equipment on/off field for shows
- UNK Football Game Concessions – Student fundraiser. We work in Runza concession stand during home games. First game in two days, September 5. ** Chairperson still needed.
- Stadium Clean-up and KHS BB Concessions – Student fundraiser. Jeanne Thorne & Jennifer Welker, Chairs. Each student may have two people signed in to earn money for them. Parents, students, brothers/sisters may work. Meet at 50 yard line, sign in, takes about 30 minutes.
- Bus Sponsors – first opportunity is Oct 5 for Harvest of Harmony.
- Water Chair – position still needing to be filled. This person makes sure that kids have water available after competitions. Water & coolers at KHS already.
- Bearcat Marching Festival – Tracy Falconer & Alexis McNeal, Chairs. Those who have responded to email are on list to help. All others welcome. Working on food prices for lunch. All bands coming to Joe Greeno to receive parade awards. Hoping this will bring more people to Greeno & provide larger fundraising opportunity.
Apparel orders are in and available for pick up tonight. Please see Arlene Jones or Karen Premer for your items.
First Football Game – This Friday, September 6. Arrive at UNK Fine Arts Building at 5:30. Kids will pick up gloves and shoes. Normal arrival time for games is 6:00. PLEASE remember to hem pants.
Directors
Mr. Mitchell: New chairs in band room paid for with funds raised at musicalia and Class Act grant. Each quarter, student is required to attend a concert and complete a short critique online. Concert suggestion is Doc Sevrenson who will be in town this fall. Cat Cards will be available soon. Kids may “check out” cards with a deposit check. 100% of profits go to student accounts. We are considering starting a chapter of Tri-M Music Honorary.
Mr. LeFeber: Trailer is coming along; we are working to get the inside set up. Showed a picture of what we expect the graphic will look like. All State Auditions will be different this year. Students have info and there is a blog post regarding this. We will be video-taping auditions Oct 7, 8, 9. The next payment for the Chicago trip is due November 15 and Treasurer Brent Meyer has student account balances available. Have found a conflict for the trip – we were misinformed of the dates of State Track & Tennis and they are the same dates as our trip. We will work families who may have conflicts with this so please see one of the directors about this situation. Trip is on Memorial Day weekend, May 22-25, 2014. Band Boosters are working very hard and experiencing success in fundraising. They will be sending a mailer in mid-September to alumni. They’d like to get a crew together to do a phone-a-thon follow-up on these mailers. There will be band practice on September 20. There is no school that day, but we have a football game that night and Bearcat Marching Festival the next day. Practice will be 8-10 am. We have had an individual from UNK come forward to offer help with the drumline. He has marched with the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corp. Since this was not built in to our budget, would like to ask if KBPA would support paying this individual $500 for his help. We pay regular drumline instructor $800 and they were there during the two weeks of band camp. A motion was made by Lori Koeppe to pay instructor, Tikki Montez, $500, second by Matt Bamesbarger. Treasurer Brent Meyer offered the information that we did receive about $1200 into our general fund from “abandonded” student accounts from students no longer in band. Motion passed.
Kearney Deserves Better
Kim Dart & Jen Gibbs from Kearney Deserves Better were available to answer any questions regarding the upcoming special election to be held on September 10.
