Student Accounts are figured and include the concessions money.
Runza estimate is $500. Had lots of good feedback this year and the students playing was great!! Murphy on the Radio was using his smartphone & putting it on the radio. Tim Higgins was taking pictures. Great response!
Photo copies of documents for the meeting tonight were donated by LIPS printing.
Old Business
Will not be doing the NSBA concert.
Charms band management system was approved last month pending verification of funds in the checking account. We do have the funds. Brent was also able to secure a donation from Walgreens. We had given them a check for $182 for Cruise night shirts and it has not been cashed. They will not cash it and cons ider the amount a donation. We will use these funds toward the Charms purchase.
Fundraiser – Butter Braids will be sold this year, March 6-20. Delivery will be April 6, in time for Easter. We do have about 45% profit on these. Extra forms are available.
Big Band Dance – Allie Nelson will chair with the help of Robbie Samuelson. A co-chair is welcome. Theme is “April in Paris.” Dance will be held Friday, April 4 at Sunrise Middle School. Sign-up sheet was sent around.
Band Banquet – Robin Farrar is chairing. Will be held Saturday, May 3. We have talked with Mr. Stein and we WILL be able to be in the south gym. The tarps are over at Sunrise; the custodians will p ut it down.
New Business
Amazon Smile is a program which gives back to groups a portion of customer sales (similar to the Target Taking Charge of Education program where you can select a school to receive a percent of your purchase). We are setting up an account for this so that people may designate KBPA for their donation. More information and instructions will follow. One half percent is donated with this program.
Scholarships are again being offered. Information has been sent out in senior packets. This year, we have a unique situation in that several members of the executive board have seniors. The executive board usually decide on the recipients. We could use a couple of volunteers to help the members of the exec board who do not have seniors select the recipients. See Jolene or Tracy if you are interested in helping.
Directors
Concert coming up next week. Posters have been made, please take a couple and post if you have locations which would be appropriate for this.
Color Guard: As state last month, next year’s color guard has been selected. New opportunity being offered is a Thursday Night Open Spin. This is a time when members can practice with the coach who is also the UNK color guard coach.
Had a couple of groups at the Family Fresh Grand Opening last week.
Have finished a FANTASTIC honor band season. At Wesleyan Honor Band, Lauren McNeal received an award for outstanding musicianship. At UNO Jazz Festival, the Jazz Ensemble received a I rating (first time). Several students received outstanding musicians. One of three outstanding soloists for the entire festival was Isaac Mitchell.
Chicago Trip: Final cost is $582. Final payment due April 1. Includes a dry-fit polo which will be used for the trip and also for other band performances in the coming years. Will have 5 rehearsals for the trip. These will be May 1, 6, 12, 19, 21 after school 3:30-5:30.
Scheduling committee: Has decided to recommend going to a straight 4×4 block schedule (no skinnies). Plan to pitch a system similar to skinnies but have automatic pairings of a required class with band. These changes would take place with the new school. Would make it more difficult to fit music in to schedules. Some of the specialty music offerings would likely be moved to outside of the school day. Ultimately, the decision will be made by Dr. Dostal. It would be approved by the school board. Two candidates for the school board are Jack Besse and Alex Straatman, both supporters of music. You are encouraged to contact board members regarding this. Jolene will provide contact information for board members so parents may contact them.
Future Items
UNK has put in a bid to host NSBA next year. If Kearney is a site, this will be a huge money savings for us and also an opportunity to make some money. Could be a $10,000 swing for us. Will know about this after the NSBA meeting this week.
We will likely offer food at the Yanney concert. More on this next month.
Looking forward to next year, there will be spots available with the KBPA board and committees. We will be needing a president-elect and treasurer-elect. Uniform committee will be needing freshman parents. Cruise Nite chairs are also needed. We will also need someone to lead the Web Team. We really have a mentoring system in place so when you sign up, it is a two-year commitment where you are the helper the first year then in charge the second year.
Next meeting will be held Tuesday, April 1.
Having no further business to conduct, a motion to adjourn was made by Ed Uden, second by Todd Ochsner.
