Tuesday, November 3, 2015 · Band Room, KHS
The meeting was called to order at 5:32pm by Alexis McNeal, President of KBPA.
Minutes from the last meeting held on October 6, 2015 were able via paper copy prior to the meeting. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Doreen Sheen and the motion was second by Jennifer Welker. All were in favor. The minutes were adopted.
All marching band expenses were paid up. The current checking account balance is $20,000. There is approximately $80,000 in savings, most is student accounts for payment for the trip. The next payment due is January 15th.
Cat Cards – The $5.00 card money is 100% profit for the student’s accounts. If people want to use the money in their student’s accounts for the trip they must request a transfer of the funds by completing the request to transfer in Charms. You can get to the Charms account via kearneybands.org/.
Script – people are encouraged to use script to raise money for both the band and their students account. It is easy to do and Christmas is a good to raise money easily. It is like free money.
There was a huge thank you for all the volunteers who contributed to making the marching season so successful. Special mention went to Doreen Sheen and the Momfia for taking such good care of the uniforms and making sure the students looked competition ready for each event. A thank you went to Ed Uden and the pit crew who were at each event, transporting the equipment and then making sure it was transported back to the school and safely put it away. And a thank you to Doug Wolf for making sure the students had water at the end of every event.
We still need a volunteer to head up the Big Band Dance and a Junior parent to chair the Band Banquet at the end of the school year.
It was a tremendous marching season with Superior ratings at all competitions. The last marching event of the year is the Veteran’s day parade Nov 14th. Meet at 1:15 at Railroad St and then March at 2:00 to the MONA. At the end of the parade turn in all uniform parts unless your student will be auditioning for honor band. Then they need to keep the tops of their uniform.
Fundraising – Eva Linn reported about the Spotlight on the Bearcats fundraiser to pay for the lights for the sports field at the new high school. She attended a meeting and was inspired to get many involved and raise the necessary funds. Eva showed what the bricks would look like and asked that we get the word out to as many people and businesses that you know to support this great cause. The Booster club is heading up the fundraiser and the Kearney Band Parent Association is supporting the cause.
Sign ups have gone out the for basketball concessions.
Mr Mitchell – A huge thank you to everyone who helped with Marching Band season. The synergy is impressive and it is humbling to know so many people are involved. Be proud of your kids as they worked hard. There is a pile of lost and found in the band room that will be going to Goodwill, so dig out anything you may be missing. A shout out went to Asael Arevalo who Mr. Mitchell accompanied to the National Honor Band in Nashville. He did a great job and represented Kearney well.
Mr. LeFeber – Could not have been prouder of the students during this marching season. The band performed music written specifically for KHS. It didn’t always go the easy and everyone rose to the occasion and toughed it out. Thank you for supporting the band. There has been a mail box attached to the wall in the band room for students to make payments. Put checks in an envelope and then put in the mailbox that way it will be safer and more convenient. Congratulations to the 6 students who make all state band this year. There will be a pep band list coming out. Remember if your student can’t make a game they need to find someone to take their place.
Concert reviews will be due by the end of the semester. Go to the kearneybands.org/ to view concerts in the community for students to see and then review.
