Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 6:40 pm by president elect Lisa Parish. A warm welcome to everyone for attending the meeting. Parent introductions were carried out.
Doreen Sheen motioned to approval last minutes and Ed Uden second.
A big thank you was given for Patti Bennett for chairing a successful Bearcat Marching Festival.
Treasurer’s Report
Leah Beckenhauer gave financial report and reconciliations.
- Checking – $25,557.00
- Scripts – $365.00
- Savings – $14742.30
Branson deposit was sent. The estimated total cost for the trip is $610 per person. There are around 110 kids and adults attending. The next payment is due January 19th ($300) and March 16th (balance of trip).
Volunteer Information
Last Supper for band will be at Kenwood school from 4:30 to 6:30pm on October 21st. Need volunteers for servers. The food is from MOE’s mexican food and Eileen’s cookies.
Pit Crew is needing help. Please contact Ed Uden.
Heather Schilke reported need for NSBA concession workers from 3:30 to 9 pm shift are needed.
Bus sponsors are need for Lincoln Public School competition on October 14th. The school requires a background check. This form can be found on KearneyPublicSchool.org web site. Please fill out and return to Mr. Mitchell. This is a one time requirement.
A volunteer is needed to chair the Underclassmen Honor Band event on January 15th. In charge of serving noon meal and snacks.
Patti Bennett reported that 9 bands attended the Bearcat Marching Festival (BMF). Thank you all that volunteered and helped with this event. It was a great success. A profit from entry fees $3000.00 and concessions $2000.00. All money made goes into the Band parents general funds to purchase instruments, repairs, scholarships, etc.
The BMF was a great rehearsal run for NSBA. Chairs from NSBA committee reported on needs and changes. Over 136 volunteers are needed for this event. Please consider volunteering anytime you can give will help. Please consider referring volunteer options to others. Needs are: Parking, Band spectors, band flow, logistics, judges box and concessions. Please notify any of the Leadership Team members are: Patti Bennett, Stacy Bean, Jo Perry, A J Adelson, Heather Schilke, Travis Kovarik, Eva Linn, Ed Uden, Patti Bennett, Angela Wright, Andy Donovan, Corrinne Harre, Nathan LaFeber, Rick Mitchell, Charlotte Kaeding, Mitch Stine, and Don Webben.
Fundraising
- Sponsorship/Ads for NSBA – Patti Bennett chair, these are due September 18th. The ads will be in the NSBA program and other concert programs. Cost/donations range from $50.00 to $750.00 depending on size of ad.
- Cat cards – Will be available the first of October for students to sell. The students will be given 10 Cat cards at a time to sell for 3 weeks and then turn in the money to the directors to be put into the student’s accounts. Cost of cards are $5 and students will received $5 into their Charms account for each card sold. There will be a deadline as to when all cat card money is due.
- Scrip – is purchasing gift cards and money value is given back to the band. Around the holidays the offer discounts toward cards as well. More information can be found on kearneybands.org/.
- Amazon.smile.com – when purchasing from Amazon; use Amazon Smile and donate to Kearney High Band. A portion spent is given back to the band.
- Buffalo Wild Wings – On October 21st people presenting a coupon will give 10% of sales from Buffalo Wild Wings to the band general fund.
If you have ideas for fundraising events this year please bring them to the Executive Committee members.
Director’s Notes
Mr. Mitchell – Thank you for being here!! Friday, September 29th was International Coffee day the band had a coffee cart prior to rehearsal. Enjoyed by all. After band rehearsal the band went to Cornerstone Church and cleaned the church grounds. The Cornerstone church is being used for NSBA band set up and a refuge site for the high school. Honor band tryouts are underway. Nineteen students tried out for All State. More honor band information can be found at kearneybands.org/.
Mr. Lefeber – Thank you all for your support!! Concert season will start in three weeks.
- November 11th – Veterans Day parade
- December 4th – Jazz workshop and concert
- December 12th and 14th – Winter Concert at 7:30 pm. This will include the choirs as well.

Also check the band website kearneybands.org/ for the latest news. The Quarternotes, handbooks, and contact info are all on the website. Make sure you are receiving information so there are no surprises.
